Rippling is an all-in-one platform for HR, IT, payroll, and spend management used to streamline the entire employee lifecycle, from hiring to benefits administration. Additionally, Rippling automates HR tasks, ensures compliance, and simplifies approvals. Rippling can also handle device management, software access, and compliance monitoring, from the same dashboard, and provides payroll support, real-time financial visibility, and dynamic spend policies.

Rippling offers flex benefits to its customers, including health savings accounts (HSAs), flexible spending accounts (FSAs), and commuter benefits accounts.

Rippling faced increasing difficulties and dissatisfaction with its former technology platform because they couldn’t support a branded solution, lacked technical capabilities, and restricted partner support, data access, and report generation. The previous system also experienced random failures and inconsistencies, requiring Rippling to devote substantial engineering resources to corrections and maintenance.

The previous system's lack of flexibility posed additional challenges, as even minor changes or updates required extensive development efforts and add-on costs for Rippling and at times resulted in unintended downstream errors. This was particularly evident during regulatory changes, when it was incredibly cumbersome to make changes, causing the Rippling team to take on expensive development efforts because of their old vendor’s limitations.

These limitations not only impacted Rippling's internal operations but also had the potential to damage the company's reputation for providing reliable solutions.

After a comprehensive industry evaluation, Rippling selected Elevate as its new technology partner to provide the backend infrastructure for its consumer account solutions. Rippling chose Elevate for its superior technological capabilities, including:

Implementation

Elevate provided an expert-led implementation team to guide the transition, including direct access to technology experts and documentation resources. Throughout the collaborative transition, Elevate quickly adapted timelines and adjusted partner APIs to accommodate Rippling's specific requirements.

The transition process for Rippling's client accounts was deployed over a series of phased migrations conducted over four months. Backed by thorough discovery and comprehensive test scenarios, the teams began incremental data migration in small batches, then progressed to larger waves. Ultimately, the teams migrated over 3,400 clients representing over 100,000 consumer accounts. Continuous monitoring throughout the process, both automated and human-led, kept implementation efforts on track and allowed quick adjustments along the way—all while minimizing disruption for customers.

Automation and Control:

Rippling now has complete control over data management and transfers because of Elevate's comprehensive API integration. Extensive data sets were transferred automatically and securely through APIs, removing human hours as well as the potential for errors. In fact, Rippling was able to control all major processes, from employer setup to card issuance and plan configuration.

Speed of Transition:

Elevate provided immediate availability of HSA contributions and mailed fully branded, chipped payment cards to participants within one-to-three business days of the transition. Elevate’s integration into Rippling's system yielded 15 million API calls a week.

Plan Templates and Automation Features:

Elevate’s platform lets Rippling save client setup time with plan design templates allowing customizations (rollover, grace period, etc.) and other efficiencies, like fully automated pre-funding.

Rippling’s account base is now fully supported by the Elevate platform, with full API integration for FSAs and commuter accounts and single sign-on for HSAs. Given Rippling’s growth, new business is continually added to the Elevate platform automatically through APIs, with no manual steps or processes for setup or integration.

As a business, Rippling has full control plan designs, and can give members a fully Rippling-branded experience. Rippling also benefits from the instant implementation of new client accounts through APIs, dramatic reductions in human hours needed to move data, and minimization of errors through secure, automated data transmission. With Elevate, Rippling no longer needs to devote engineers to resolving technology issues, mining data, or auditing errors. Instead, the team is able to reallocate internal talent to more strategic initiatives.

Rippling customers also enjoy multiple advantages. They experience a one-stop shop for their benefits with consumer account data integrated into their Rippling portal and mobile app, easier claim submission, faster claim payments, and more secure, chip payment cards with tap-to-pay functionality.

With these upgrades, Rippling is now able to confidently expand this product line into its client base.
